Bumthang Jakar Festival
Bumthang Jakar festival is held every year in the courtyard of Jakar Dzong. People from all walks of life come to attain the festival. The Jakar Dzong is located at the hilltop facing the valley at a strategic location. People from remote villages attain distinct annual Festivals. It provides a common platform to gather and enjoy the wonderful festival of Bumthang. People dress up, gather together, and enjoy, in a convivial light-hearted atmosphere. It is also the right time to receive blessings by watching the sacred mask dances or receiving ’empowerment’ from high lama or Buddhist monks.
The mask dances which has a symbolic meaning of every step and it is performed by trained monks and laymen. Festivals of Bhutan are unique and still, Bhutan preserves the culture and traditions. At the Paro Festival which the turnout of tourists is high in Bhutan, Thimphu Festival is known for the festival conducted in the capital city Thimphu. Most Festival scroll down big large cloth piece ‘thangka’ literally known as a “Thongdrol” is exhibited for a few hours, at daybreak of the final day of the festival. People receive blessings.
