On the 24th of June 2022, the National Assembly of Bhutan passed the Tourism Levy Bill of 2022. The new Tourism Policy of Bhutan was implemented after Covid-19. The Royal Government of Bhutan raised SDF(Sustainable Tourism Development Fund) to tourists from US$65 per person to US$200 per person per day.

Along with the increase in the SDF, the Minimum Daily Package Rate (MDPR) has been removed. Tourist has to pay for accommodation, meals, transport, and guides separately.

The SDF for regional tourists(Indian passport and vote card holders) is set at 1200 BTN (~15 USD) per night, and they will have to hire a guide and transportation.

The main reason for the revision of the SDF is to reinvest the amount to improve the overall standard of the tourism industry.
