The Bhutan Postal Museum was established in November 2015 to celebrate the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The main objective of the Bhutan Postal Museum is to narrate the story of Bhutan’s development of communications in the country.

It is located in the main town on the ground floor of the Thimphu GPO building.

The Bhutan Postal Museum is open from Monday- Saturday from 9:00 AM – 5 PM during Summer and 9:00 AM – 4 PM during Winter. We are also open during the Thimphu Festivals also.

It is just a 5-minute drive to reach National Memorial Chorten from the museum. The National Memorial Chorten Bhutan or Thimphu Memorial Chorten is located in the core area of Thimphu. It is walkable from the main town. The stupa was built in 1974 in memory of the third King of Bhutan Jigme Dorji Wangchuck by his wife. In 2008 the National Memorial Chorten Bhutan went into the renovation. It is also known as “the most visible religious landmark in Bhutan”. The stupa is not meant for human remains, unlike other stupas. The Chorten or stupa is a representation of the mind of the Buddha.

3. Royal Textile Museum Bhutan

It is just a 5 Minutes drive to Royal Textile Museum Bhutan or Royal Textile Academy is a national textiles museum. It is located very near to Taj Tashi Hotel and Authentic Handicraft shops. It was established in the year 2001. It has a huge collection of antique textile artifacts. Weaving in Bhutan is the culture and tradition. Royal Textile Museum Bhutan’s aim is to preserve and promote this living art of Bhutan to international and domestic markets. The Royal Textile Museum Bhutan was instituted in May 2005 under the royal guidance of Majesty Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck.

4.Jungshi handmade paper factory

The Jungshi handmade paper factory Bhutan has located other side of Thimphu Valley and it is just 5 minutes car drive to reach from Museum. You need to cross the Thimphu Wangchu river. The factory was set up in 1990. It is one of the sightseeing in Thimphu to visit. Jungshi handmade paper factory will provide you the entire process of traditional paper manufacturing. Jungshi handmade paper factory also has an outlet to sell the products.

5. Gagyel Lhundrup Weaving Centre

It is 7 minutes drive to reach Gagyel Lhundrup Weaving Center. It is located in Changzamtok. It is just a 20-minute walk from the main town. You can take a cab. It is hand made traditional weaving center you can look into how Bhutanese weavers weave Bhutanese outfits.

After sightseeing in Thimphu‘s main town and you can just walk and have lunch nearby places.
