Bhutan itinerary for 7 Nights 8 Days Bhutan Luxury tour.

Day One- Arrival Paro – Thimphu

Our representatives from Bhutan Himalayan Holidays will be there at Paro International Airport to receive. Drive to Thimphu directly from the airport, which will take 1 1/2 hours.

On the way, you can view Tachog Monastery the private temple located on the other side of the Paro River. It was built by Thangthong Gyalpo- the Iron Bridge builder in the 15th century. Thang Thong Gyalpo (1385 – 1464) was a saint from Tibet. He came to Bhutan in 1433 looking for Iron Ore. He built 108 bridges across Tibet and Bhutan. Eight of them were built in Bhutan.
After lunch in Thimphu town, visit the National Memorial Chorten (1974). It was built in honor of our 3rd King, late His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. He was the Father of Modern Bhutan. Visit the tallest Statue of Buddha, which is a 7 km drive from Thimphu’s main town. It is 169 feet tall facing the Thimphu valley.

In the evening time visit the Tashichho Dzong, the Royal Secretariat, the seat of the national government, and the Central Monastic Body. Stroll in the town for shopping and photography. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day Two- Thimphu Sightseeing

After breakfast drive to Changangkha Lhakhang, just a 5-minute drive from the main town of Thimphu. From the temple, you will be going towards the Takin Preserve center. Takin is the national animal of Bhutan. Sangaygang viewpoint is just a 2 km drive from Takin Zoo. Visit Dupthop Lhakhang one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan.

After lunch, visit the National Postal Museum. You can get Instant personalized photos. Visit the Folk Heritage Museum and Craft Bazaar(Authentic Bhutanese arts and crafts are sold here). In the evening drive to National Football Stadium. Nearby the Football ground, you can witness an Archery match. Stroll in Thimphu town for shopping and photography.

Day Three-Thimphu – Punakha

After early breakfast drive to Punakha, en-route Dochula Pass with an elevation of 3100m. It takes 30 minutes to drive from Thimphu. Dochula with 108 stupas on the roadside. You can see an awesome view of the snow-capped Himalayas if the weather is clear. On the way, visit the Royal Botanical Garden at Lamperi.

The Royal Botanical park is about half an hour’s drive towards Punakha road. A nature reserve center for flora and fauna. Drive further to Punakha.

On the way, view Chimi Lhakhang(the fertility temple). It was built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley (Popularly known as “The Divine Madman”. It was built in 1499. He subdued the demons with his “Magical Thunder bolt” and built the temple on top of a hillock. The demon is still buried there at the side of the temple.

Lama Drukpa Kuenley (1455 – 1529) was one Saint who was born in Tibet. He was trained at Ralung Monastery.
After lunch, visit Punakha Dzong built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. It is situated between Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River).

In the evening time, you will be hiking for one hour to Khamsung Yulley Namgyal Choling Monastery. Drive till Yabesa village and hike to through rice fields. The Chorten was built by her majesty the queen Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuk. The Chorten is perched on the top of the hill and you can see Punakha Valley.

Day Four-Punakha–Gangtey

Day Four of the Bhutan Luxury Tour will drive you to Gangtey, which takes 3 hours car drive. 66 Km drive. Enroute to Wangdiphodrang. Visit the Wangdiphodrang Dzong razed by fire in 2012. It is under construction with the help of the Government of India. It was built in 1638.

From Wangdue drive to Gangtey the roasting valley of black neck crane. It takes two hours to reach Gangtey Gompa. Gyaltsen Pema Thinley, the grandson and mind reincarnation of Pema Lingpa founded the Temple in 1613. It is one of the oldest monasteries in Bhutan.

From Gantey Gompa take Gangtey nature trail. It takes one hour to reach the Phubjikha Valley.

After lunch, you can explore Phobjikha valley. During the season you can see rare Black-necked Cranes. Visit the Crane Information center.

Day Five-Gangtey–Thimphu

After breakfast, drive to Thimphu. it takes nearly 6 hours to reach Thimphu. It is 143 km drive. Lunch will be served on the way to Thimphu. In the evening, free for photography in the town.

Day Six – Thimphu – Paro Sightseeing

After breakfast, drive to the Chelela pass(3988m). It takes one hour drive to reach the place. It is the Highest Motorable road in Bhutan. You can see the beautiful view of the Higher Himalayas including Mt. Jumolhari.

Drive back to Paro. After lunch, visit the Ta Dzong(presently National Museum of Bhutan). Before it was an ancient watchtower. Visit Rinpung Dzong or Paro Dzong built-in 1646. It was built by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal(Founder of Bhutan). The Dzong presently houses administrative offices of the Paro District and monastic body. From here, take a short downhill walk across a traditional cantilever bridge.  If you are lucky, you will catch a glimpse of the archery match.

In the evening, visit Bhutanese homestay. Bhutanese homestay houses are very colorful, decorative, and traditionally built without the use of a single nail.  Visit Homestay will be interesting and offers an experience to the lifestyle of a Bhutanese farmer.

Day Seven- Paro sightseeing and hike to Tiger’s Nest

After breakfast, drive Paro to the base en route Sartsam Chorten.  Day hike to Taktsang Monastery. It will take 2-3 hours uphill hike to the monastery depending upon your hiking skill. The main temple was built in 1684 by the Penlop of Paro Gyaltse Tenzin Rabgay. The Taksang monastery clings on the granite rock at 900m above Paro Valley. The guru who flew on the back of Tigress brought Buddhism to Bhutan.

After lunch, visit the ruins of the Drukgyal Dzong from the base camp of Taksang monastery which will take only 10-15 minutes drive. It was built in 1647 by the great Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. It was destroyed by accidental fire and left in ruins. On the way back to the hotel or Paro town, visit Kichu Lhakhang, built in 659 A.D by the Tibetan king Srongsen Gampo.

Day Eight-Departure for outbound
