One of the most prominent and widely celebrated festivals in Bhutan is the Paro Tsechu. The Paro Tsechu is an annual religious festival held in the Paro Valley. It is usually held during the spring season (around March or April). It is one of the biggest and most popular religious events in Bhutan, attracting both locals and tourists. The festival usually lasts for several days and commemorates the birth of Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, who brought Buddhism to Bhutan in the 8th century.

During the Paro Tsechu, the locals dress in their finest traditional attire, and a series of masked dances (Cham) are performed by monks and laymen. These dances depict various stories from Buddhist mythology and history, and they are believed to bring blessings and ward off evil spirits. The highlight of the festival is the unveiling of the Thongdrel, an elaborate and massive religious silk appliqué that is unfurled at the break of dawn on the final day. The mere sight of the Thongdrel is considered to cleanse the onlookers of their sins and bring them blessings.

Apart from the Paro Tsechu, Bhutan has several other festivals celebrated throughout the year in different regions of the country. Some of the other major festivals include the Thimphu Tsechu, Punakha Drubchen, Punakha Tsechu, and Wangdue Phodrang Tsechu, among others.
