    Bumthang Cultural Trek

    Bumthang cultural trek is 3 days trek in Bumthang valley. It passes through Choekhor and the Tang valley of Bumthang. It is interesting to go through remote villages, ancient monasteries, and sites. Though it is a short trek you will enjoy the landscapes and hiking through Phephe La, measuring an elevation of 3360 meters.

    The trekking route starts from Toktu in the northwest of Ngang Lhakhang. The trek route will take you to the trout-filled river Chamkhar river. The trekking route of the Bumthang cultural route goes southeastwards to end. That will again find you Ogyen Chholing.

    Bumthang Culture Trek also brings you to a large number of small local villages to experience Bhutanese rural lives that are still surviving.

    Best season to trek Bumthang cultural trek:

    This trek is best recommended from April to May and then again from September to November.

    Itinerary

    Day 1Toktu Zampa – Ngang Lhakhang

    Distance: 12 km
    Time: 4-5 hours
    Camp Altitude: 2,800m

    The trail takes towards the Chamkhar river popular for trout. Lunch at Thangbi monastery. From here the trek takes you to Ngang Yul (Land of the Swan) and the monastery name is Ngang Lhakhang (Swan Temple).

    Day 2Ngang Lhakhang – Tahung

    Distance: 16 km
    Time: 6 hours
    Camp Altitude: 2,720 m

    The day will start with an excellent view of valley. Climb to Phephe La with altitude of 3,360m. The trail goes through lovely forest covered and pristine environment. The trail drives you to downhill into the valley.

    Day 3Tahung – Mesithang

    Distance 16 km
    Time: 4-5 hours

    Today the trail takes you to Tang river where you see again with trout fish. You will see Tang Rimpoche’s monastery. The trek will pass the Mebar Tsho (Burning Lake) and lead you to Tang Ogyencholing. Ogyencholing Palace houses the main exclusive exhibition hall in Bhutan. The trek ends. Car will be there to pick you and take to Hotel.
