Restriction of tourist in Bhutan

The Royal Government of Bhutan imposed two weeks restriction starting from 6th March 2020 on all incoming tourists with immediate effect. One American tourist traveling to Bhutan from Guwahati India to Paro Bhutan got infected in Bhutan with Coronavirus. He was traveling with his 56 years old girlfriend. In addition, all international conferences and seminars to be held in the country in the two weeks are also postponed.

The government will assess the situation after two weeks and accordingly decide on the restrictions. If the situation gets worse the travel to Bhutan gets restricted further.

As per the Government directives, the Tourist restrictions go indefinite till vaccine is out in the market for treatment. In Bhutan, Covid-19 will get worse if the inbound tourist flow is allowed. So, with guidelines from the Ministry of Health is providing directives to all agencies and people round the clock. The temporary restriction of tourists in Bhutan will be the directives of the Royal Government of Bhutan.

The government is closely monitoring the pandemic situation within and beyond the country and updates will be provided progressively as the global situation unfolds. Starting from July 1, 2020, Bhutan will provide changes in activities within Bhutan. Reopening of Schools for standard X and XII will resume. All students are required to wear masks with proper sanitization. While all parks and public spaces will reopen, huge gatherings of crowds including tournaments and spectators will still be prohibited. Wearing of face masks is required at all gatherings and safe distancing protocols are to be followed.

As of August 2,  2020, there are 103 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Bhutan, 14 are in the isolation ward for recovery, 89 of them from 103 already recovered. All positive were all imported cases from Bhutanese returning to the country. The recovery rate is high with no death till now.

Bhutan takes the safety of its people very seriously with guidance from His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. There is a mandatory 21-day quarantine for all Bhutanese who return to the country from outside. All the citizens will be isolated in the designated quarantine facilities where meals will be provided and tests are conducted regularly.
