The Jungshi handmade paper factory Bhutan has located other side of Thimphu Valley. You need to cross the Thimphu Wangchu river. It takes nearly 5 minutes to drive from the main town. The factory was set up in 1990. It is one of the sightseeing in Thimphu to
undergo the process of manufacturing live.
It is the only Bhutanese traditional paper factory surviving in Thimphu. The main raw material for the paper is from the bark of a tree known as the Daphne tree and the Dhekap tree. It is available in some parts of Bhutan. The process of manufacturing is very traditional manner. The government allowed them to collect the raw material from the specific region with clearance from the forestry department of Bhutan.
Tourists can visit the place to see the real process of Bhutanese paper. It is similar to Japanese handmade paper. In Bhutan, most religious texts are written in traditional handmade papers by monks.
The paper factory export to many countries like USA, Europe, Japan, India, and Nepal. It showcases the finished products displayed in the shop. You can check in the shop of the Jungshi handmade paper factory Bhutan. Products like letter pads a4 size, lamp sheds, books, greeting cards, paper bags, and many more are displayed at the shop.
Opening days: from Monday to Saturday. It is closed on Sundays but can be open on request if you want to see the factory and buy the products.
