Thang Thong Gyalpo (1385 – 1464) was a wonder-working saint from Tibet who came to Bhutan in 1433 looking for Iron Ore. He built 108 bridges across Tibet and Bhutan, out of which 8 were built in Bhutan. His only surviving bridge is in Duksum (Tashi Yangtse district in Eastern Bhutan).
After lunch at Thimphu, visit Bhutan Postal Museum, where you can make instant personalized stamps. Visit the National Memorial Chorten, a monument dedicated to the Third King of Bhutan, His Majesty King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Visit Changangkha Monastery, The Mothithang Takin Preserve, the Sangay Gang viewpoint, the Largest sitting statue of Buddha in Bhutan, and the Tashichho Dzong.
After breakfast, drive to Punakha, which takes 2–3 hours of car drive. It is a 77km drive. Stoppage at Dochula Pass (3100M)with its 108 stupas built to commemorate the victory against militants across the border of Assam. You can also view the picturesque snow-capped Higher Himalayas of Bhutan. Drive further down for nearly half an hour and visit the Royal Botanical Garden at Lamperi. A Rhododendron garden with 46 rare species of plants is available here.
Punakha-Dzong
Further drive towards Punakha, which will take another hour. After Lunch, visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1637. The Dzong is situated at the confluence of the Pho Chu (Male River) and the Mo Chu (Female River). It served as the seat of the Government. Punakha is still the winter residence of the Je-Khenpo (the spiritual head of Bhutan).

After breakfast, drive to Wangdiphodrang, which will take 30 minutes to drive. On the way, visit Chimi Lhakhang also called the “Temple of Fertility”, built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley.
Lama Drukpa Kuenley (1455 – 1529) was one of Bhutan’s renowned Saint born in Tibet, trained at Ralung Monastery. He was a disciple of Pema Lingpa. En-route sightseeing includes the Wandiphodrang Dzong which was razed by fire in 2012 and is now in ruins & under construction with the help of the Government of India(GOI). The Dzong is situated at the confluence of the Mo Chu and Tang Chu rivers.
After lunch, drive to Thimphu, which will take 2 hours without a stoppage on the way. After reaching, Thimphu witness the Archery match at Changlimithang Stadium. In the evening, stroll in the town and do free shopping.
After breakfast, visit the Painting School, famous for carving and free hand art, and the Folk Heritage Museum. Drive to Paro, which will take one hour to reach your Paro Hotel.
After lunch, visit the Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower for the Paro Dzong, which has been, since 1967, converted into the national museum of Bhutan. After Museum visit Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong). It was built in 1646 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal(Founder of Bhutan). The Dzong presently houses administrative offices.
From the Dzong walk downhill to the point where your car and driver will be waiting. On the way, you can see a traditional Bhutanese cantilever bridge. If you are lucky and fortunate enough, you can catch a glimpse of an archery match in action. In the evening, visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse to see a typical Bhutanese way of life and the traditional food of Bhutan.
After an early breakfast, hike to the Paro Taktsang Monastery, which takes approximately 2–3 hours, depending upon your uphill hiking experience. This incredibly sacred monastery clings to the edge of granite rock at 900 meters above the Paro Valley. Guru Rinpoche, the tantric Buddhist guru, introduced Buddhism to Bhutan in 747 AD. He flew on the back of a tigress to the Paro Taksang cliff. The tigress is believed to be his favorite consort.
Evening time sightseeing t0 Drugyel Dzong, the fortress of the victorious Drukpa people, which is now in ruins, was built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate the victory over the Tibetan invaders in 1644.
Visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred monasteries, dating from the introduction of Buddhism in the 8th century. In 659, He decided to build 108 temples in a single day to subdue the demon. 6 of these Temples are in Bhutan, the most prominent of them are Jambay Lhakhang in Bumthang and Kichu Lhakhang in Paro.
