Bumthang Kurjey Festival 2019 is important festival for the people of Bumthang. Guru Rimpoche still has the body imprint of the rock.
Bumthang Kurjey Festival is celebrated in the popular and sacred Kurjey Lakhang. Kurjey literally means body imprint. People of Bumthang attend the Bumthang Kurjey Festival pay respect to Guru Rinpoche or the second Buddha who brought Buddhism into Bhutan. It is a one-day festival and the chams/dances include the Guru Tshengye and Shinjay cham performed by the monks of Kurjey Lhakhang. It is then closed with the unfurling of a giant Buddha/Guru Thangka painting known as “Thongdrel”.
